Great North Run – Mirror
Brief
Pitlane Promotion supplied promotional event staff for The Mirror at the Great North Run on Sunday 7 September. The brief was to engage spectators and promote the event sponsor by distributing free newspapers and novelty foam hands.
Team
The assignment used 20 event staff, with an event manager coordinating progress and timing. Staff were selected for communication skills and their ability to carry out the duties along the 13-mile route.
Duties
The planned distribution involved more than 5,000 newspapers and 1,000 foam hands. Staff spoke with spectators about the promotion and distributed materials at agreed points along the route.
Delivery
The challenge was to cover a dispersed crowd while reaching areas with strong media visibility. Pitlane planned deployment and used event management to coordinate navigation, timekeeping and coverage.
Outcome
The original post-event account reported visible foam hands in race highlights and a strong social-media response. These are qualitative observations: the account does not provide independently measured reach, sales or engagement figures. The distribution quantities above describe the planned materials, not a verified final distribution total.
Client feedback
A post-event review took place with the client. No direct client quotation or quantified feedback is reproduced in this case study.
